Public Transit, by Zoe Dickinson

Public Transit Launch

I’m excited to announce that I will be launching my first poetry chapbook, Public Transit, as part of Victoria’s Planet Earth Poetry reading series. Public Transit is a collection of poems about my experiences riding public transit in Victoria, B.C., and the Canadian winner of Leaf Press’ Overleaf Chapbook Competition for 2015. As a frequent attendee of Planet Earth Poetry’s wonderful reading series, I am honoured to be able to present my own book at one of their events!

The launch will take place at Hillside Coffee and Tea on May 27th, 2016 from 7:30pm 9:00pm. I will

Hope

Tomatoes on the kitchen sill

soften side by side,

still attached by a vestigial vine.

Supposedly there to ripen in the sun—

but there hasn’t been sun for months—

instead they catch the diffuse glow

of rain falling so slow

it might as well be standing still.

Light teased from a million droplets

by patient fronds of moss

infects plump red skins

with a subtle gleam

of longing.

Later, I cut one open

and find tiny green shoots

sprouting from its seeds.
